Material Information
Natural Aggregate Description:
Aggregates are small, granular materials used in construction and landscaping. In gardening, decorative aggregates are used to add texture, colour, and interest to outdoor spaces whereas base aggregates such as MOT Type 1, sand, standard shingle and ballast on the other hand, are used in construction projects such as foundations for paving, creating concrete or other building projects.
Decorative aggregates come in a range of sizes, colours, and textures, and they can be made from a variety of materials such as crushed stone chippings, gravel, pebbles, and cobbles. Using decorative aggregates in the garden can create a number of different effects. For example, using light-colored aggregates can create a bright and airy feel, while dark-colored aggregates can create a more dramatic and moody atmosphere. Using aggregates of different sizes and textures can also add interest and depth to garden designs.
There are many ways to use decorative aggregates in the garden. Here are a few ideas:
Pathways: Create a meandering path through your garden using gravel or pebbles. This not only adds interest to your garden but also helps to define the space.
Borders: Use larger aggregates to create a border around flower beds or other garden features. This can help to keep soil and mulch in place, while also adding a decorative touch.
Water features: Use decorative aggregates around water features, such as ponds or fountains. This can help to create a natural look and feel, while also preventing erosion.
Containers: Use decorative aggregates in plant containers to add texture and interest. This can help to retain moisture in addition to providing a distinctive and finished appearance.
Overall, decorative aggregates are a versatile and attractive addition to any garden design. With a little creativity, you can use them to create a unique and beautiful outdoor space.
Natural Aggregate Characteristics:
With any natural product, there is always the chance that the colours can vary. Similarly, natural stone can contain broken or misshapen pieces and may vary slightly from the photo. The sizes of natural stone products are approximate and conform to British Standard grading systems which mean they have passed the 'sieve test'.
The sieve test is a standard method used to determine the particle size distribution of decorative aggregates. It is a simple and effective way to ensure that aggregates are of the appropriate size for their intended use in landscaping or construction.
The sieve test involves placing the aggregate onto a series of sieves with different mesh sizes, ranging from coarse to fine. The sieves are then shaken or vibrated to allow the smaller particles to pass through the openings in the mesh, while the larger particles are retained on the sieve. Each sieve layer equates to a stone size grading. Some stones may be longer in one direction than the other and depending upon the direction the stone faced during the sieve process, it is possible for occasional larger pices of stone to fall through. This is to be expected within the grading of natural stone aggregate.
