Product Description
Rubber Chippings for Safer Surfacing are crafted entirely from recycled tyres and are versatile enough for use in numerous applications such as playgrounds, landscaping, chicken coops, terrariums, bowling green ditches, and horse riding arenas. A long lasting product and a great alternative to wood bark.
Uncertain about the quantity of rubber required? A minimum thickness of 50mm is advised, ensuring protection for falls up to 1.1 metres and maintaining the rubber's stability.
Be aware that this product is made from recycled materials, and colour variation is possible between batches. For extensive projects, we advise purchasing enough product in a single order to ensure colour uniformity throughout.
Playground wire free rubber chippings have a polyurethane coloured coating which means they are 100% safe and colours will not stain children or clothing.

DEPTH GUIDELINES:
For fall heights up to 2.4m use at a 50mm depth
For fall heights over 2.5m use at a 100mm depth
For fall heights up to 3.6m use at a 150mm depth
1 square meter will need 1 polybag (20 kg) at 50mm depth or 2 polybags (40kg) at 100mm depth
5 square meters will need 5 polybags (100kg) at 50mm depth and 10 polybags (200kg) at 100mm depth
10 square meters will need 10 polybags (200kg) at 50mm depth and 20 polybags (400kg) at 100mm depth
These depth indications and quantities should be used as a guideline only. Children should be supervised at all times.
HOW TO USE
1) Make a pit or frame to required size. Ideally treat with weedkiller and then spread a permeable membrane within this area to discourage any future weed or grass growth.
2) Choose your required depth - in many play situations 50mm per square metre will suffice. BS EN 1177:1998 guidelines for impact absorption.
3) Spread playground rubbe

Material Information
Rubber Characteristics:
Rubber mulch chippings are a type of mulch made from recycled rubber. They are created by shredding old tyres and then processing the resulting material to create small, uniform chips that are 99.9% wire free. These chips can then be used as a mulch in landscaping or as a safety surface for children's play areas.
When used as a mulch, rubber chippings provide many of the same benefits as traditional wood-based mulches. They help retain moisture in the soil, suppress weed growth, and regulate soil temperature. However, unlike wood mulch, rubber mulch does not decompose over time, which means it will not need to be replaced as frequently.
Rubber chippings are also commonly used as a safety surface in playgrounds and other areas where children play. This is because rubber mulch has excellent shock-absorbing properties, which can help prevent injuries from falls. It's also non-toxic, non-abrasive, and does not retain moisture or rot, making it a safe and comfortable surface for children to play on.
In addition to its safety benefits, rubber mulch is also an environmentally friendly option. By using recycled materials, it helps reduce waste in landfills and can contribute to a more sustainable landscape design. The rubber will last at least 10 years and the colour will remain in place for around 2 years before any fading occurs. The use of weedkillers, pressure washing, extreme weather and persistent rain will cause the rubber colour to fade.
What Thickness is Required?
For landscaping use as a garden mulch, it is recommended that a 40mm depth is used. The products shown for landscaping use on our website show the coverage achieved when laid at 40mm depth.
For play areas, it is essential that the correct thickness of rubber is used to meet the critical fall height regulations. The requirement is to use 50mm thickness for fall heights up to 1.1m, although it is recommened that the rubber is laid at 100mm thickness around the 1.1m high play equipment in case of displacement of the rubber. Our website shows play rubber at a thickness of 50mm and the associated coverage achieved.
All our coloured, rubber chippings are sold as certified to testing as a loose fill material to either a 50mm depth or 100mm depth. If you require a depth outside the tested depths then the critical fall height safety measurements will be impacted. We cannot guarantee that the appearance and/or colours of products shown on our website are an exact replica in the appearance and/or colours of the physical products themselves. Sizes are nominal and may vary. Some of our rubber is suitable for a number of applications, however it is the responsibility of the customer to carry out their own tests to ensure the different grades of rubber supplied meets with their application purpose, and where necessary compatible with any chemical binder they wish to add to their application.
