Are metal sheds prone to condensation?

In certain weather conditions, condensation can form on the inside of a metal garden building, especially if there is warm moist air inside the building as this will condense on the cold metal panels.

In order to reduce condensation forming, we recommend the following:

  • Erect your building on a raised timber floor or properly constructed concrete slab. This should be level, with edges slightly bevelled to allow rain water to drain away from the building sides. A damp proof membrane should be used within the base and the membrane positioned at least 50mm higher than the surrounding ground level adjacent to the base. Ensure the concrete has cured for at least 7 days before assembling the building.
  • Once the shed has been fixed down, a waterproof, weatherproof mastic sealant should be applied to the inside of the shed base rails to prevent water seeping into the interior of the building
  • Do not use the building for storing items that could collect and trap water, for example carpets, matting and cardboard
  • Ensure all plastic washers supplied with the kit have been installed on all roof panel fasteners and that the aluminium weather seal tape is correctly applied across the entire centre join of the roof panels
  • Ensure that any air vents are not obstructed to allow air circulation into the building
