We all know that first impressions count, and this is especially true for your home. It may be beautiful inside, or in the back garden, but if the front of the house isn’t to an equal standard, who is to know? However, making over the front of your house isn’t just for other people- it will give you something to be proud of, too. You don’t have to spend a lot of time or money to make the front of your home look its very best.
This may sound incredibly simple (because it is!). Giving your front door a fresh lick of paint is a super easy way of improving the appearance of the front of your house. If your front door is unsuitable for painting, simply give it a clean! A bucket of hot soapy water and a gentle scour will leave it sparkling in no time!
Unfortunately, weeds are incredibly common and can make even the most beautiful of front gardens look scruffy. Regularly weed the front garden- once every two weeks should suffice- to keep it weed-free! To avoid the problem of weeds when you design your garden, use weed matting to prevent them from growing through your shingle.
Unkempt hedges are a no-no in a front garden; if you don’t have time to deal with them, get rid of them! If your hedges, bushes and shrubs are overgrown, it can impede entry of visitors, meaning your home will feel less welcoming before they have even arrived at the front door!
In general, pattern and repetition is aesthetically pleasing as it suggests order and maintenance. This can be achieved through colour or species of plants, the container they are planted in or where they are planted. All it takes is a little imagination! Patterns of interesting planters are especially inviting.
