Corten Steel is a strong and weather-resistant material that covers itself with a protective layer of rust when it is exposed to open air. This fixed coating of rust provides protection against further corrosion.

The weathering process begins immediately and continues for approximately 4 months depending on climate and location. This process can be expedited by wiping off any residual surface oil left by the manufacturing process. Also comes with a 5- Year warranty.
Please note – the Corten Steel product you receive will be unweathered or partially weathered unless otherwise agreed. During the weathering process, the Corten Steel produces carbon run off and therefore potential staining to neighbouring materials such as decking or patios.
This product may be subject to a longer lead time than our standard 7 working days but we will contact you upon receipt of your order if this is the case.
PLEASE NOTE
The weathering process of Corten Steel is integral to this product and as such we will not accept any responsibility for damage caused to surrounding materials as a result of carbon run off from Corten Steel products.
Please ensure you do not place your product on any surface that may be damaged during the weathering process.

Material Information
Corten Steel Characteristics:
Corten Steel (also known as weathering steel) is a special steel originally developed for bridge building and skyscraper construction due to its incredible strength. It develops a protective, striking rust appearance on exposure to the weather, creating warm rich textures not always associated with metal. Corten steel can add a unique and beautiful element to any garden or outdoor space. It has a rusty, earthy appearance that can add a natural and rustic feel to outdoor spaces. Over time, the steel develops a natural patina that can create a sense of age and history in the garden. Corten steel has a rough, textured surface that can create an interesting contrast with smooth materials like stone, concrete, or glass. This contrast can add depth and visual interest to outdoor spaces. Corten steel is a highly durable material that can withstand harsh weather conditions and resist corrosion. This makes it an excellent choice for outdoor furniture, garden sculptures, and other garden features that will be exposed to the elements. It does not require painting or maintenance to prevent rusting.
Corten steel can add a stunning and unique element to any garden or outdoor space. Its rustic appearance, textural contrast, sculptural quality, durability, and low maintenance make it an excellent choice for garden features and furniture that will enhance the beauty of the garden for years to come.
When you first receive your corten steel products they will arrive in an un-weathered or partly weathered condition. This means they may be only partly rusted and could show manufacturing marks. Once placed outside the weathering process will begin which is when the rust covering will develop and any manufacturing marks or scuffs will disappear. This process takes several months and corten steel has a reactive patina period from 3 to 9 months depending on location and climate. The patina or rust acts as a protective barrier, not penetrating or compromising the structural integrity of the material. During the weathering process the corten steel produces carbon run off or staining to adjacent materials such as stone or concrete. To reduce this possible staining, the majority of corten steel products are supplied with small feet, lifting the product and preventing direct contact with the flooring material. After the initial reactive period Corten Steel will cure and self-seal with little to no carbon runoff.
The colouration of each item will vary as the weathering process takes place, eventually producing a rusty brown patina. Due to the chemical composition of corten steel, a very dense oxidisation layer is formed during the weathering process which protects the blue steel inside. If this protective barrier is compromised, it will simply form a new skin to protect itself. Corten steel is extremely durable and has a far higher resistance to atmospheric corrosion than other steels, which is why it is ideal for use in fire-pits, planters and water features.
